Devin’s Education was Diesel Powered at ICC

November 9, 2022

“ICC is home to the best diesel program that I know for college students”, praises Devin Cole, who completed the Illinois Central College Diesel Powered Equipment Technology Program, better known as DPET, in Spring of 2022.

Attending college during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a struggle for many students, but Devin was given hands-on-experience working with state-of-the-art industry technology on a daily basis. With the help of instructors like Jeff Gardner and Colin Campbell, Devin was able to preserver and credits them with being able to graduate.

“Without their teaching and personal experience from working in the field before becoming the instructors of the DPET program, I’m not sure if I would have the skills I possess now to be where I am today as a school bus mechanic.”

Despite the obstacles that a global pandemic caused to Devin’s education, he credits ICC for working tirelessly to adapt in an ever-changing world to make sure that he was able to succeed. “It was honestly a good time. I made new friends and learned all that I needed to be successful in the diesel mechanic field.”

Since graduating, Devin has become a John Deere technician before moving to become a fleet maintenance worker for a school bus leasing company.
