Miranda: Discovering Her True Calling
After facing challenges in her nursing career, Miranda discovered the Surgical Technology program at ICC, and it instantly felt like the right fit. With the program’s two-year completion time, Miranda says it is “ideal for anyone wanting to get started in a career quickly.”
As a first-generation college student and one of six siblings, Miranda considers herself fortunate to go to college. Born and raised in Illinois with Mexican roots, she’s driven by a desire to make her family proud. Her ultimate goal is to “give to them what they never had.”
Two instructors at ICC have profoundly impacted Miranda: Tonya Lempesis and Sonya Conton. Miranda describes Tonya as a “kindhearted instructor who teaches to make a difference and wants to see her students succeed. She’s very knowledgeable and never makes you feel bad for getting an answer wrong.” Sonya, on the other hand, is like a “supportive mom” to every student. “She has so much confidence in not only me, but all her students and constantly lifts you up with her radiant energy.”
It can be hard to find a job right after graduation, but that isn’t a problem in this program.
Miranda, ICC Student
From the start, Miranda has felt well-prepared for her future career as a surgical technician. Representatives from local hospitals visited Miranda’s cohort, offering insights into working for them, along with benefits like tuition reimbursement and sign-on bonuses.
No matter where life leads, Miranda encourages others, “Don’t let your fears stop you from succeeding. Even if you’re scared, do it anyway.” Her ICC journey is a testament to her determination to overcome her fears, pursue her passion, and commitment to make her family proud.
