Learning to Lead with Heart: Kierstin’s Nursing Journey at ICC
For Kierstin, nursing isn’t just a career—it’s a calling.
Following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, both ICC nursing graduates, she enrolled in the program, determined to build a life of purpose and impact.
“I knew I wanted to work in a field where I could care for others,” she said. “Nursing felt like a natural fit.”
The program challenged her to grow—not just academically, but personally. With each class and clinical, she found her confidence, her focus, and her sense of belonging.
“ICC didn’t just shape me into a nurse—it showed me where I belong.”

“I remember one of my instructors comparing us to jagged rocks,” she said. “She told us, when we were done, our edges would be smooth too. And that’s exactly what happened.”
Life circumstances required her to step away from the program temporarily, but when she returned, she found the same doors open—and the same people ready to welcome her back.
“Coming back was hard,” she admitted. “But ICC gave me the chance to pick up where I left off. The support from my instructors and classmates reminded me I wasn’t alone.”
She also found help outside the classroom. With encouragement from faculty, Kierstin began working with Tanya at the Academic Support Center to strengthen her writing skills. That extra effort paid off in more ways than one.
“She didn’t just help me improve my assignments—she helped me believe in myself.”
