Johnathan’s Journey: From College Dropout to Police Officer
Johnathan’s path to becoming a police officer was shaped by the support he received and the determination he discovered at ICC.
After enrolling in the Law Enforcement program, he quickly found a supportive environment that allowed him to thrive. The dedicated instructors, particularly Professor Tom Higgins, understood his challenges with ADHD and motivated him to succeed.
ICC made it simple, easy, and extremely accommodating.

The practical skills Johnathan gained through the program extended beyond the classroom with internships at local agencies that provided real-life experience and prepared him for the realities of police work. “The program and the professors definitely prepared me for the job,” he asserts.
Now a police officer at the very department that once helped his family during difficult times, Johnathan leads by example, excelling in his role and giving back to the community.
His journey from a first-generation college student to a successful officer underscores the transformative power of perseverance and second chances.
But Johnathan’s journey wasn’t always this smooth. Raised by a single mother who often relied on the local police department to provide Christmas gifts for her children, Johnathan faced many challenges early on.
His initial attempt at college ended in frustration, and he eventually dropped out, struggling with focus and organization—a struggle that only made sense later when he was diagnosed with ADHD.
Determined not to let his setbacks define his future, Johnathan returned to college with the unwavering support of his family. Enrolling at ICC was a turning point in his life, providing the clarity, structure, and encouragement he needed to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer.
Today, Johnathan’s story is a testament to the power of determination, the importance of supportive communities, and the life-changing opportunities that education can provide.
