Ethan’s Personal Growth Through Community

May 8, 2025

Ethan always knew he wanted to make a difference.

Now a history education major at Illinois Central College, he’s finding the confidence and community he needs to achieve that dream.

“My experience at ICC has been nothing but fantastic due to all the support from professors and meeting new people,” he says.

Ethan’s goal is to become a high school history teacher—someone who helps students discover their passions, just like he has. He chose ICC for its stellar reputation and affordability. He appreciates receiving a top-notch education for a fraction of the cost of a four-year institution. He encourages everyone in Central Illinois to consider ICC, praising its supportive environment and outstanding faculty.

I have had professors who teach at private universities, and I’m getting the same education for a fraction of the cost.

Ethan, ICC Student

Ethan’s biggest influence at ICC has been communications professor Joe Chianakas, who Ethan describes as the best professor he’s ever had. Joe’s ability to connect with students on a deep level has helped Ethan become more confident in his abilities as a listener and communicator.

With his eyes set on his goal of becoming an influential educator, Ethan’s journey at ICC is not just about earning a degree—it’s about personal growth, and he strongly feels ICC has helped him progress in all aspects of his life.
