Tell us about the career path that led you to your current job.
I was hired as a police officer recruit at ICC in 2009. After graduating from the 14-week recruit class held at the Illinois State Police Academy, I started as a patrol officer. While serving in the role of Lieutenant at ICC, I also graduated from Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command. I rose through the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant to Deputy Chief before becoming Chief of Police in 2022.
How did ICC shape your future or help you attain your professional goals?
ICC provided the foundation for everything. By staying near home my first two years of college, I was able to attend school while keeping a part-time job I already enjoyed. I chose to venture out and live on my own, but still had friends and family close by for support. By choosing ICC for my first two years, I was fortunate to graduate college without student debt with the help of my family.
What does it mean to you to be able to serve the students and staff?
We strive to give the ICC community a consistent feeling of safety knowing we are always here if they need us.
What advice would you give current students at ICC to succeed?
Enjoy the time and experiences you have here. Make personal connections with people and know that you are not alone – there is always someone at the college to reach out to for help.
