In the blink of an eye, Tricia Downing, an avid competitive cyclist, became paralyzed from the chest down after colliding with a car while on her bike. Now a wheelchair racer and disability advocate determined to live life on her terms, Tricia shares the story of her struggles and triumphs since her accident.
As she re-learned to do everything from sitting straight up to navigating through her house in a wheelchair to returning to work, her inner strength helped her to not only learn how to live life as a paraplegic—a label that took time to grow accustomed to—but to have the courage to return to the competitive sport she loved and almost lost.
In Redefining Able, Tricia encourages us to look within to define what we are capable of as leaders, reframe challenges as opportunities, build resilience, and overcome obstacles. We each have the ability to define our life. How will you redefine able?
