The Illinois Central College Philharmonic Chorale is led by director Amy Smith. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Music Education. She began her teaching career in the Morton School District #709 where she taught K-6 General music and Jr. High Chorus and Show Choir. While teaching, Smith founded the Morton Elementary Chorus. After 8 years as a music teacher, Smith left and joined the staff of Morton UMC, where she was the Minister of Music and Christian Education.
Throughout 24 years at the church, Smith directed 2 adult choirs, a youth choir, a youth show choir, children’s chimes, countless musicals, cantatas, small group ensembles, brass choirs, as well as numerous educational activities. By resigning in 2021, Smith was able to spend more time singing, which led her to the Philharmonic Chorale and to directing. Smith is happily married to Zackary, and they have 2 adult children and 2 cats.
