Adjunct Instructor Jonathan Parker explores how King Edward VII’s unique diplomatic skills helped ease tensions in Europe. Despite being excluded from government by his mother, Queen Victoria, Edward cultivated personal diplomacy to strengthen ties with France, manage relations with his nephew—the German Kaiser—and push for vital military reforms. Had he lived longer, perhaps his efforts may have delayed—or even prevented—World War I.
