MACTR 110 PRINT READING - MECHANICAL

3 Credit Hours (OC)
This course is designed to familiarize the student with mechanical blueprint reading through the study of print content and how it drives the selection of manufacturing processes and materials. Drawings studied include: orthographic projection, sections, auxiliary views, sub- and assembly-prints. Emphasis is placed on learning the processing requirements necessary to attain part-function and tolerances specified. Problems which will enable students to develop an understanding of commonly accepted industrial, design, and machining standards and practices will be assigned.

MACTR 121 MACHINE TOOL OPERATION I

3 Credit Hours (OC)
This course emphasizes safety in construction and correct handling of hand tools, layout tools, some precision and limited precision layout tools. The student is introduced to machine nomenclature and basic tool changes and set-up. The student is required to make projects by following an operation sheet with detailed information outlining set-up, performance of operations, speeds, feeds and tool changes.

MACTR 122 MACHINE TOOL OPERATION II

3 Credit Hours (OC)
This course is designed to further experience the use of machine tools. The student is introduced to precision tools and the use of attachments. Selected projects help develop proficiency on machine tools while maintaining close tolerance and achieving specified surface finishes.

Pre-requisite: MACTR 121 with a grade of "C" or better or department approval

MACTR 123 MACHINE TOOL OPERATION III

2 Credit Hours (OC)
This course will instruct the student in the safe and correct use of specialized operations dealing with making machine parts requiring assembly and use of fixtures. The student will make temporary fixtures and select feeds, speed, tools, and operations for efficient machining.

Pre-requisite: MACTR 122 with a "C" or better or department approval

MACTR 124 SPECIAL MACHINING SKILLS

2 Credit Hours (OC)
This course is designed to develop the ability to make projects requiring a high degree of skill in manual machining. The student is required to demonstrate proficiency in selecting and performing appropriate processes that would efficiently produce close tolerance tooling, jigs and fixtures.

Pre-requisite: MACTR 123 with a grade "C" or better or departmental approval

MACTR 221 MACHINING INTERNSHIP

1 Credit Hours (OC)
This internship course is a cooperative project between the College and potential apprentice employers and is designed to provide industrial experience in the fields of precision machining, die making, or mold making. The student will be assigned a wide range of related on-the-job machining experiences with a local metalworking manufacturing firm.

Pre-requisite: Completion of MACTR 122 and NCTK 212 with a grade of "C" or better
