Alumnus of the Last Decade Award

Our Alumnus of the Last Decade Award is a way to recognize and honor an outstanding ICC Alumnus who has completed 30 credit hours or a certificate or degree at ICC within the last decade. Recipients have demonstrated achievements in his/her career field, committed to improving education in the ICC district, or outstanding service to our community.

Meet the 2023 Winner – Mason McCoy

Illinois Central College graduate Mason McCoy has achieved remarkable success since leaving ICC in 2015. Emerging as a top 30 prospect for the Baltimore Orioles, he garnered recognition as a Mid-Season All-Star in the Class A New York-Penn League in 2017 and earned All-Star status in the AA Eastern League in 2019. Mason’s career took a significant turn in March 2022 when he was traded to the Seattle Mariners and again in July 2023 to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Making his MLB debut in August, McCoy became the third ICC alumnus to reach the Major Leagues. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, he is committed to community service, volunteering at baseball camps and clinics, including those at ICC. Known for his dedication to education and his hometown, Mason supports local youth by organizing his own camp during the off-season. McCoy’s ongoing contributions to ICC showcase his commitment to helping the next generation of baseball players realize their potential, making him a standout figure deserving of the spotlight.
