ICC to Host Virtual Commencement
In light of the public health recommendations currently in place, the Illinois Central College spring commencement will transition to an online virtual ceremony. The format may be different, but the excitement to celebrate ICC students has never been more inspired. The virtual ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, as previously planned.
Graduates’ names will be announced and live remarks will be made by Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey, ICC President. ICC welcomes Kim Blickenstaff, local community developer and ICC alumnus, as this year’s keynote speaker.
Students will receive additional information regarding the virtual ceremony via email. Students and their families will be able to view the ceremony in the safety of their homes and celebrate their graduate. A recording of the ceremony will be available at a later date.
“Illinois Central College realizes how important it is to recognize this major accomplishment of our students’ success,” said ICC President Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey. “In addition to many of our students being first generation graduates, all of these students were challenged by a pandemic, many lost their jobs and struggled with the transition to virtual learning. And still, they achieved. They are resilient, they are tenacious and they need to be celebrated. At ICC, we feel it’s vital to show our students we are proud of their accomplishments and commitment to succeed.”
Illinois Central College 2020 graduates will also have the option to participate in next year’s traditional commencement alongside the class of 2021.
