ICC President Appointed to National Community College Curriculum Committee
Illinois Central College is proud to announce ICC President Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey has been appointed to the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) advisory committee to assist in developing a new, innovative curriculum for its doctoral program in community college policy and administration.
“I am proud to be part of this committee shaping the next generation of community college leaders. This program has been developed with a vision of providing community college leadership the tools needed to improve student success and address the incredible amount of change we are all facing in higher education,” said Dr. Quirk-Bailey. “I’m honored to have a voice in collaborating with some of the finest thinkers in the community college field as we develop a high-quality program with exceptional outcomes.”
The advisory committee, comprised of thought leaders from community colleges, the workforce, universities and non-profit organizations, will be tasked with upgrading and redesigning the university’s curriculum to reflect the challenges faced by community college leaders today. Among the committee members are Walter Bumphus, President and CEO of American Association of Community Colleges (AACC); Rufus Glasper, President and CEO of the League for Innovation in the Community College; and Karen Stout, President and CEO of Achieving the Dream Inc.
“By necessity, the role of the community college leader has evolved over time to keep pace with changes in the educational landscape that influence how colleges operate,” said UMGC President Javier Miyares. “At the same time, a growing number of senior leaders are approaching retirement age, creating a wealth of career opportunities for the next generation of community college executives. It is vital that curricula be updated, and new content developed to successfully address today’s critical economic, political and workforce issues.”
