Welcome ICC’s new Interim Dean of Humanities

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Bruce Busby, Interim Dean of Humanities, for the 2019-2020 academic year.  He replaces Jennifer Swartout, who recently resigned.

Dr. Busby has had a distinguished career in higher education.  He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in English from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.  He comes to us from Ohio, after having recently completed three tours of post-retirement assignments.  He has served as Interim Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the Community College of Rhode Island; Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Curriculum at Halifax Community College in Weldon, NC; and Associate Provost for Student Success and Dean of University College at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN.  As a scholar, Dr. Busby served as the editor of the Journal of Continuing Higher Education and editor-in-chief of the Journal Committed to Social Change on Race and Ethnicity.  Dr. Busby has devoted his professional career, spanning over 40 years and including experience at both two-year and four-year institutions, to promoting excellence in teaching, learning and scholarship in higher education.

Dr. Busby displays a collaborative leadership and management style, centered on a shared vision for faculty, staff and student success.  He is a warm, approachable, and supportive leader who has successfully supervised and empowered faculty, staff and students throughout his career.  His outlook is positive and energetic, and his demeanor is both inviting and reassuring.
