With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is a time for all of us to stop and take stock of the many blessings in our lives. The honor of working with all of you is near the top of my list. Another blessing is the honor of serving our students and contributing to changing their lives. At this time of year, I often reflect on the following:
“Give us a thankful sense of the blessings in which we live, of the many comforts of our lot, that we may not deserve to lose them by discontent or indifference.” – Jane Austen
These words truly resonate with me when considering the incredible challenges faced by some of our own ICC students. Many have inspirational stories in which they’ve overcome obstacles of homelessness, physical disabilities, and lack of financial resources for the basics – like food. Yet through our support, their perseverance and will to change, they succeed at Illinois Central College – due to all of you. Please take a few minutes to listen to two of our own students, and let us give thanks for the honor of enabling them to change their lives:
Please never forget the influence you have and the difference you make every day in our students’ lives. Thank you for your commitment to better our community and to make students’ dreams a reality.
Please know how much you are appreciated, not just at Thanksgiving, but throughout the entire year.
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving,
Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey
