Susan Hillabold and Mary Phelps Facilitate First Webinar
Dr. Susan Hillabold (English, Humanities, & Language Studies) and Mary Phelps Clayton (Social Science and Public Service) co-facilitated a webinar presentation, Using Google+ Hangouts in Synchronous and Asynchronous Student Communications, for the fully online conference, Growing Online Learning 2016: Implementing Best Practices, hosted by Illinois Community Colleges Online (ILCCO).
During the webinar, they demonstrated how to access Google Hangouts, create a permanent link to Hangouts from Blackboard, access Hangout via an app, incorporate gaming into a synchronous active learning environment, and how to create an instant messenger. Hillabold and Clayton noted many advantages of using Hangouts, including: providing a real faculty presence, accommodating guest lecturers in remote locations, allowing students to share their work either with the professor or in a group setting, and accommodating multiple learning styles.
This presentation was made online from the ICC Teaching and Learning Center on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. The fully online conference spanned from Tuesday, February 23 through Thursday, February 25, 2016.
