Sigma Kappa Delta Presents Reading Rangers Book Drive

Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD), the English Honor society chapter at ICC, will host a Reading Rangers program from September 14 – October 2 on the East Peoria Campus. The purpose of the Reading Rangers program is to collect age-appropriate books for children aged 6-9 for distribution through the local charity Operation Teddy Bear.

According to Rebecca Richardson, chapter historian and co-founder of Operation Teddy Bear, “Reading Rangers is the brain child of the SKD officers to help promote a love a reading and literacy in the future generation of ICC students. Each child will receive one or two age-appropriate books, along with a custom-dressed stuffed animal. Our aim is to introduce them to the classics, like Dr. Suess, the Bernstein Bears, Shel Silverstein and others while giving them a cute, stuffed reading companion.”

To participate in the program, students and faculty are encouraged to donate new or gently-used, age-appropriate books. Collection boxes with the Reading Rangers poster attached will be located throughout campus beginning September 21, or you may drop off items at any time in the SKD office, Room 302A, on the East Peoria Campus.

Distribution of the books and Reading Ranger buddies will begin in early October. To learn more about the program or to make arrangements to have donations collected, e-mail Rebecca Richardson at [email protected]
