The capital investment will be used towards funding a new Sustainability Center located near Route 24 on the ICC – East Peoria Campus. ICC President John Erwin thanked the Governor and credited the ICC Board of Trustees for their continued support of capital projects to advance the college’s educational mission.“This stand-alone building will be a Sustainability Center that will be located near the Route 24 entrance and has been a proposal filed with the State of Illinois as a capital building project. It will house our heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) program, architecture, and other programs affiliated with sustainability,” Erwin says. “Another component of the new building will be a community resource center in which local residents can come to learn about green programs and sustainability practices.”
In his remarks, the Governor also shared plans to invest more funding for the Monetary Awards Program (MAP) which is the state financial aid program. Governor Quinn said the $50 million increase in MAP funding would support more students in need. “We want to make sure everyone who needs help can get it,” Quinn said. The increase in MAP funding would double the state’s MAP investment over the next five years and is estimated to provide 21,000 more students with an opportunity to attend college.
