Last week, Illinois Central College Police promoted officers Craig Hightower and Erika Schwiderski to the rank of Sergeant.
The sergeant’s promotional exam was a competitive process open to all full time ICC police officers. Its purpose was to assess the candidate’s communication skills, administrative ability, judgment, decision making capabilities, problem solving skills, supervisory competence, knowledge of college policies & procedures, time management skills and delegating & prioritizing abilities. Erika and Craig attained the highest overall scores in the four phase process.
Erika Schwiderski received an associate’s degree from ICC in 2007 and a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University in 2009. She graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy and began her law enforcement career with the ICC Campus Police Department in 2009.
Craig Hightower graduated from the Police Training Institute and began his police career with the Streator Police Department in 1978. After 10 years in Streator, Craig joined the Peoria Police Department, serving 22 years as a patrol officer, DARE officer, drug enforcement officer and spent his final nine years at Peoria P.D. as a Crime Scene Investigator. Craig has been with the Illinois Central College Campus Police Department since February of 2012.
