More Than 100 Local Performers to Participate in “ICC Presents: Jim Maloof’s Legacy of Love for the Arts in Central Illinois” Event April 16 at Northwoods Community Church

More than 100 local performers, representing seven performing arts groups, will join forces and talents for a one-night only event, “ICC Presents: Jim Maloof’s Legacy of Love for the Arts in Central Illinois,” on Thursday, April 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, at Northwoods Community Church, 10700 N. Allen Road, Peoria (at the corner of Allen Road and Wilhelm). The family-friendly entertainment extravaganza is designed to promote the performing arts in Central Illinois and raise money for former Mayor Maloof’s signature accomplishment, the Peoria Affiliate of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Illinois Central College Readers’ Theatre cast, along with the Peoria Ballet, ICC Vocal Jazz, Pulse of Peoria Drumline, Peoria Players Theatre, guest artists from the Heartland Symphony Orchestra, and the family of former Peoria Mayor, Jim Maloof, are a few of the featured performers for the evening.

Community members are invited to attend, and admission is free, although more than 75 ICC students—both past and present—will assist during intermission in collecting audience donations to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Peoria.

The evening’s itinerary includes professional dance sequences from Ballet alumni, as well as current members of the ballet programs, an impressive knee-slapping performance by Pulse of Peoria Drumline, a selection from the Peoria Players Theatre upcoming musical production of “Damn Yankees”, vocal harmonies of the ICC Vocal Jazz, guest artist performances by David Commanday and others from the Heartland Symphony Orchestra, an inspiring ICC Readers’ Theatre show centering on random acts of kindness entitled, “We Will, We Will R.A.K. You:  Rockin’ This World With Random Acts of Kindness!”, vocal harmonies of ICC Vocal Jazz and special performances by the Maloof Granddaughter Trio, Markie, Michy and Katie Maloof.  The evening is sure to entertain audiences of all ages and will highlight Maloof’s involvement in both the arts and in the founding of St. Jude in the Peoria area. Former Mayor Jim Maloof passed away on January 19, 2013.

Special guests include ICC Provost Dr. William Tammone, surprise videos and in-person introductions from a number of well-known Peoria area personalities, and numerous other supporters of the local performing arts and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Amy Jones, former patient and ardent supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, will provide insights on the powerful influence the hospital has on our community and beyond.

A cookie and punch reception will be offered during intermission, and participating organizations will have informational table displays set up in the Atrium of Northwoods.
