ICC’s “Between the Lines” Program for October Explores Our Love (or Hate) of Horror

Why do some people love to be scared while others hate it? Can the horror in fiction prepare us for the horrors of reality?

Just in time for Halloween, Illinois Central College’s “Between the Lines” Program will present “Oh, the Horror!”, a closer look at common themes in macabre tales and the psychology behind our love (or hate) of scary stories. The presentation will take place on Monday, October 5, at 2:30 pm, in Room 212C/D on the ICC East Peoria Campus.

The works of Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury and more will be discussed. Attendees will have a chance to win Spook-Tacular horror-themed prizes!

“Between the Lines” is a lecture series presented by the faculty members of the English, Humanities and Language Studies Department at ICC.  Since the series began in the fall of 1990, ICC has offered more than 100 presentations on a wide variety of literary topics.
The goal of the series is to offer literary presentations which will interest students and people in the community as well as promote reading literacy and scholarly study.

The programs are free and open to the public.
