Join ICC Electronic Resource Librarian Jessica Bastian as she explores the persuasive power of storytelling. Learn the elements of effective storytelling, how to use technology to capture and share personal stories, and how narrative can be a powerful change agent.
“Those who tell their stories rule the world” is a widely cited, Native American proverb that captures the power of storytelling. Story telling is the art of conveying events in words an images. Great stories, like the graphic novel March by John Lewis, build relationships and inspire action. Tech tools like the StoryCorp app, YouTube, and social media enhance our ability to capture, share and preserve stories. The impact of a shared personal experience can transform our understanding of the world. Everyone has a story to tell. Build your storytelling skills and learn about how you can contribute the One Book, One College storytelling project.
“Between the Lines” is a lecture series presented by the faculty members of the English, Humanities and Language Studies Department at ICC. Since the series began in the fall of 1990, ICC has offered more than 150 presentations on a wide variety of literary topics.
The goal of the series is to offer literary presentations which will interest students and people in the community as well as promote reading literacy and scholarly study.
The programs are free and open to the public.
