ICC Philharmonic Chorale Welcomes Lara Reem as New Director
The Illinois Central College Philharmonic Chorale recently announced Lara Reem as its new choir director. Reem joins the group after the passing of former director J. Michael Morris in March.
“We are pleased to have someone with Lara’s stellar reputation join us as we enter our 93rd season,” said Carl Williams, president of the choir. “Her love of music and her desire to help us continue our fine tradition of excellent music makes us all very excited to work with her. There is no replacing our past director, J. Michael Morris, but we are looking forward to Lara continuing in the fine line of directors in our choir’s long history.”
Reem holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois in Music Education. She also has taught at Washington Community High School for 21 years, directing three choirs and assisting with instrumental music. She teaches a History of Rock course at the school and works with the Panther Academic Coach program for freshman and sophomore students. In addition, Reem is a co-producer and music director of the annual school musical, the producer of the annual Madrigal Dinner, and prepares students throughout the school year for Illinois Music Educators and Illinois High School Association events.
She received the WEEK-TV “One Class at a Time” Award, the Silver Apple Service Award, and the WCHS Excellence in Education Award. Reem also served as director of the Peoria Area Civic Chorale’s high school ensemble and is a member of the Nova Singers. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American Choral Directors Association.
“I’m honored to begin the season with the Philharmonic Chorale. As one of the longest-standing choirs in the area, the Chorale has a dedicated group of singers, some of whom have been with the group for decades,” Reem said. “They have consistently shown their dedication to the ensemble as they endured the loss of their beloved director last year, and it is my privilege to continue to work with these singers in the upcoming season.”
The ICC Philharmonic Chorale, now in its 93rd year, traditionally performs many styles of choral music and welcomes all singers into the group. Open rehearsals for new members are on Tuesdays, beginning August 16, from 7 to 9 pm, in Room 121A on the ICC East Peoria Campus.
