ICC Librarian Jessica Bastian selected for ILEAD USA team
ICC Digital Services Librarian Jessica Bastian recently was selected to participate in ILEAD USA (Innovative Librarians Explore, Apply and Discover), a prestigious year-long program funded by the State Library and designed to help library staff understand and respond to user needs. Participants learn about ways to incorporate the latest technology into their programs and work in teams to build model programs aimed at addressing a specific patron need.
Bastian will serve on the “Make it Count” team, along with four other participants from Illinois. Her team, like others located in ten states across the nation, will take part in simulcast and in-person sessions to hone their skills in blogging, digital video and virtual reference. They will then use the skills they learned to identify a single group project aimed at addressing a particular patron need.
“I am delighted to participate in ILEAD USA and to be on a great team of academic librarians from four other schools in Illinois,” Bastian said. “We plan to examine the library’s impact on student success and to develop best practices to share with other academic librarians.”
The teams will begin meeting simultaneously across the country for three four-day sessions in late March. The groups are scheduled to meet for additional sessions in June and October.
Bastian has been employed with ICC since 2011 and recently became the college’s digital services librarian.
