Guest Artists Series for 2014-15 opens August 22

Featuring a six-show season of professional music, comedy, dancing and more, the 2014-2015 season of Illinois Central College’s Guest Artists Series opens August 22 with a tribute to “America’s greatest star”.

Simply Streisand, a tribute to entertainment legend Barbra Streisand, kicks off this season’s ICC Guest Artists Series featuring performances by nationally- and internationally-touring professional artists.

The August 22 Simply Streisand performance features a tribute to the iconic Barbra Streisand. From the hair down to meticulously-detailed replicas of concert gowns, the tribute show recreates the excitement and high-energy vocals of Streisand’s most powerful numbers while showcasing the beauty and purity of her sound.

The second show of the season features fantastic vocals, gorgeous costumes and exciting tap-dancing performed with classic songs from the Great American Songbook. Two on Tap features celebrated musical theatre performers Melissa Giattino and Ron DeStefano as they bring their talents to the stage on October 18.

November brings perennial comedy favorite The Second City back to ICC. This original comedy revue of improvisational and sketch comedy takes place November 29 and features a seasonal blend of hilarious holiday-based scenes and songs. The perfect alternative to the same old holiday shows, this performance is rated R for some mature content.

In December, a tribute featuring the holiday songs of iconic brother and sister pop music duo Karen and Richard Carpenter ─ the Carpenters ─ comes to the stage in Close to You presents A Carpenters’ Christmas on December 19. Lisa Rock and her six-piece band return to the ICC stage by popular demand following their performance last season, but this time with a show based on the music of the Carpenters’ two holiday albums and Christmas variety shows.

On March 20, a tribute to the legendary music icon known as “the Man in Black” is featured with The Legend of Johnny Cash. For almost 30 years, Philip Bauer has been performing his tribute to Johnny Cash, an act featuring many of the songs that kept Cash on the charts throughout his storied music career. Bauer’s uncanny performance and resemblance to Cash prompted country music legend Charlie Daniels to call Bauer’s portrayal of Cash “the best I’ve ever seen”.

The final show of the season takes place in May and features a Branson-style music revue filled with master musicianship and comedy. Showcasing three performers playing 30 different musical instruments, New Odyssey takes the stage on May 22 featuring a vast catalog of music spanning five decades.
