New Dean of College and Career Readiness
Pending ICC Board of Trustees approval, Ms. Arnitria Shaw will be named ICC’s new Dean of the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Department in the Workforce Development Division.
Dean Shaw will begin her new role in August while transitioning from her current role as TRiO Student Support Services program director. As CCR Dean, she will oversee Adult Education, Career and Technical Education, Early College, and the Perkins Grant, while also serving as the primary point of contact with the 32 area school districts. She will work closely with Dean Kay Sutton, who will retire from ICC on September 30, after 32 years of outstanding service to the College, its students, and the community. Dean Sutton has a vast amount of knowledge and skills to transfer to Dean Shaw in a short amount of time, but Dean Shaw is definitely up for the challenge.
Dean Shaw came to ICC in 2002 as an adjunct faculty member in the English Department. She joined TRiO in 2004 as Upward Bound College and Career Transitions Advisor and then was promoted to director. She received her bachelor’s degree in English-Secondary Education from Western University and a master’s degree in Education, Teaching and Leadership from St. Xavier University. During her tenure as director, she has co-written the $1.5 million renewal grant for ICC and has led the development, supervision and implementation of the grant. She also is active in the community, including her role as Student Assistance and Family Liaison Advisor at Von Steuben Middle School, as well as the MATL Cohort Leader and Faculty Member at St. Xavier University. She has received the Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, the 2015 ICC Staff Diversity Award, and the 25 Women in Leadership Award.
As of August 13, Dean Shaw will be in transition, spending half her time in each office. She can be reached at both her current TRiO office, Ext. 8940 and in the College and Career Readiness office, Ext. 6863, located in Arbor Hall 102, Peoria Campus. She will begin working full-time in the College and Career Readiness office on September 4.
