SUMMARY:Landscape and Garden Day: STEAM in the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our 44th Annual Landscape and Garden Day. “STEAM in the Garden: Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Arts\, and Math” is a free\, family-friendly day in the beautiful ICC gardens\, hosted by the Horticulture Program. \nEnjoy gardening seminars and exhibits\, family-friendly activities\, a vendor fair highlighting local garden clubs and nurseries\, display gardens featuring this year’s All-America selections winners\, a plant sale featuring plants grown by Horticulture students\, and a native plant sale sponsored by the ICC SAFE Club. \nParking is available along the east side of Campus Drive near the Rt. 24 entrance. Accessible parking spots are in Lot G. \nSeminar Topics:\nWeird and Wonderful\nDiscover the weird and wonderful surprises hiding in your garden and landscape. From other worldly plant galls to the lingering effects of last year’s cicada emergence\, Tricia Bethke will guide you through the fascinating—and sometimes puzzling—world of backyard science. Learn which curious finds are harmless\, which ones might signal a problem\, and when it’s time to take action. \nTechnology is Revolutionizing the Landscape Industry\nFrom self-driving mowers to artificial intelligence and data-driven insights\, technology is transforming the way we design\, maintain\, and experience outdoor spaces. Join Todd Reinhart\, co-founder of Reinhart Landscaping & Snow\, as he shares how his team is pioneering the use of autonomous mowing systems and AI in Central Illinois. \nIndoor Gardening for Food and Fun\nWant to enjoy fresh greens\, herbs\, or tomatoes all year long? In this inspiring seminar\, Victor Zaderej will showcase the Kratky Method\, a simple\, passive way to grow plants hydroponically—no pumps or complicated setups required. You’ll also discover the many uses and benefits of modern LED grow lights for everything from microgreens to tomatoes. \n
