The #6 ICC women’s basketball team used a balanced offensive attack & a solid defensive effort to score a 79-52 win over John Wood CC in Region 24 & MWAC action in Quincy on Sunday afternoon to claim the MWAC regular season championship in undefeated fashion. This is the 3rd consecutive year ICC has won the MWAC regular season title since joining the league in 2018 and moves the Cougars’ record to 17-2 on the season.
ICC busted out to a 21-12 first quarter lead behind perimeter attacks by Kayla Gordon and Derria Edwards along with the inside play of Cierra McNamee, Keijah Gray, and Camryn Stafford. The Cougars increased the lead to 35-18 midway through the second period behind a three-pointer from Dayja Evans (assist Courtney Jones) and another McNamee score (assist Kristyn Mitchell) but JW heated up to close the half on an 8-0 run as ICC settled for a 35-26 halftime lead.

The Cougars kept the defensive pressure on as Samaiya Buchanan picked off a pass and Stafford got loose for scores (assists Edwards & Jones) putting ICC up 59-38. Gordon & Edwards bolstered the defense, with Gordon taking two charges and Edwards one to help the Cougar cause.
