McNamee, Blue Crew Lead #4 Cougs Over Kankakee
Game Date: March 9, 2021
Cierra McNamee’s 21 points & another strong showing from the Blue Crew helped the #4 ICC women’s basketball team down Kankakee 86-61 on Tuesday night at Kankakee. The Cougars dished out 22 assists while the Blue Crew outperformed the Cavalier bench 32-13 to get the win.
The teams played to an 8-all tie in the first few minutes before KCC got drives to the hoop & the Cougars had empty possessions, giving the Cavs a 22-13 first quarter lead. Dayja Evans hit a three-pointer to start the second period that steadied the Cougars, and Courtney Jones, Ayanna Gibbs, & Keijah Gray added scores to pull ICC within 25-24. Derria Edwards made back-to-back layups to ignite an 18-4 run as Evans & Sh’coria Metts assisted each other on treys & when McNamee hit a shot just before the halftime buzzer, the scoreboard showed the Cougars had outscored the hosts 30-6 in the second frame to take a 43-28 lead.
ICC held a comfortable 53-36 advantage midway through the third on scores in the paint from Camryn Stafford, McNamee, & Ayanna Gibbs (assists Nia Williams, Edwards, & Kayla Gordon) and a charge taken by Edwards pumped up the team. But KCC found their rhythm again & cut the ICC lead to 57-51 until Williams cashed in a three-ball from the right wing (assist Edwards), Gibbs scored inside, Edwards nailed a trey from the left wing (assist Gordon), & Gordon got a layup to push the lead back out to 67-51 after three.
The Cougars increased their lead as Stafford & McNamee scored in transition, Samaiya Buchanan scored on drives to the paint, and Gibbs and Gray scored added baskets while Jones took a charge to give the Cougars the victory
