Cougars Trounce Bulldogs
The #7 ICC women’s basketball team got back on the winning track in a big way with an 81-30 win over South Suburban College (8-10) on Saturday afternoon at Ramsey Gym. Back on December 7th, the Cougars had to fight for a 77-66 win in South Holland, but the SSC roster has had some roster changes since then, making things a lot different this time. Bright spots for the Cougars were a 40-6 edge in Blue Crew scoring as well as shooting 51% from the field, while holding the Bulldogs to 19% shooting on the afternoon.
End of 1st quarter: ICC 22, SSC 7
Camryn Stafford helped ICC get off to a strong start with 11 points in the quarter (assists from Summer Stoewer, Courtney Heffren, Maia Marshall) as the Cougars controlled the game from the start. Defense also played a key role as ICC forced 14 turnovers and held SSC to 2-10 shooting.
Halftime: ICC 45, SSC 10
The Cougars continued to roll as Stafford and Ayanna Gibbs combined for 12 points. Marshall, Catora Brown, and Courtney Heffren also chipped in with scores. ICC cashed in seven Bulldog turnovers for 15 points, only allowing the Bulldogs to score 3 free throws in the stanza.
End of 3rd quarter: 64-18
The third quarter belonged to the Blue & Gold as they continued to increase the lead with a balanced attack. Brown splashed in a three, while Ariana Washington scratched the scoring column on a runner. Josi Becker, Stoewer, Sh’coria Metts, Heffren, & Gibbs all added baskets to help the Cougar cause.
The Bulldogs struggled to score, while ICC continued to have their way leading to the win.
