Lakers’ Hot Shooting Torches Cougars

The #9 Lake Land College women’s basketball team shot 51% for the game to down #7 ICC 77-56 in a Region 24 match-up of two Top 10 teams at Ramsey Gym on Wednesday night.  Lake Land (17-2) was hitting on all cylinders while the Cougars were flat from start to finish, leading to the lopsided loss and dropping ICC to 12-6.

End of 1st:  Lake Land 22, ICC 8

Camryn Stafford scored on the first possession to give ICC their only lead of the night at 2-0.  Summer Stoewer and Stafford helped the Cougars draw to within 9-6 at the 6:04 mark, but Lake Land went on a 13-2 run as ICC was not sharp defensively and turned the ball over seven times to get in the hole.

Haltime:  40-21 Lake Land

The Cougars pulled to within 22-12 on Josi Becker’s free throws and Stafford’s basket (assist Stoewer), but the Lakers were much more sharp, as they increased their lead to 31-14 with 4:40 in the half.  Courtney Heffren & Josi Becker hit back-to-back three-pointers (Moriah Ward assists) but Lake Land was too smooth on offense to allow ICC to make any dent in the deficit.

End of 3rd:  63-38 Lake Land

The teams traded baskets for the first part of the stanza and then LLC continued to surge to increase their lead.

Fourth quarter:

ICC showed some small signs of life to start the fourth as Stoewer and Stafford combined for scores and the defense dug in to draw to within 69-49, but it was way too little too late, and Lake Land cruised to the win.

Becker (7 pts, 4 reb, 3 asts) Ward (2 pts, 2 reb, 3 asts) Stoewer (12 pts, 6 reb, 6 asts) Stafford (17 pts, 7 reb) Marshall (3 pts) Metts (4 pts, 4 reb) Heffren (5 pts, 5 reb) Gibbs (6 pts, 5 reb)
