Cougars Roll Over Kish; #9 ICC 89, Kishwaukee 36

The #9 ICC women’s basketball team used a 23-2 run to open the 2nd half to roll over Kishwaukee 89-36 on Thursday evening at Ramsey Gym.  The Cougars notched four players in double figures and controlled the boards 68-29 to get the win.

End of 1st quarter:  ICC 12, Kish 8

Maia Marshall made a layup off the opening tip, but due to nine first period turnovers, scoring was a bit of struggle.  Ayanna Gibbs had a steal and layup, and Raven Overman and Camryn Stafford added scores (assists Josi Becker and Marshall).  In addition to the turnovers, ICC converted only 4 of 18 field goals.

Halftime:  ICC 36-18

The second quarter was owned by the Cougar posts as Moriah Ward had the first eight points of the quarter on two offensive put backs and two field goals (assists Catora Brown) while Stafford added an offensive put back and basket (assist Marshall).  Brown splashed in a three-pointer (assist Becker) in transition to give ICC a boost going into intermission.

End of 3rd:  61-24

ICC put their nose to the grindstone in the second half and it paid off as they broke the game open.  Ayanna Gibbs helped get the defense going with her length at the top of the press, and the other Cougars followed her lead.  After Gibbs’ put back for the first score, the next eight baskets were scored on assists and ICC was rolling on scores by Marshall, Gibbs, Becker, Stafford, Stoewer, and Mulder (assists Gibbs, Stoewer, Marshall-3, Becker-2, and Stafford).

4th quarter:

The Cougars continued to thrive, as Kamryn Cuevas and Molli Mulder (2) swished in three-pointers.
