Cougars drop opener to LSU-Eunice; LSU Eunice 84, #5 ICC 66
The #5 ICC women’s basketball team lost their season-opener to LSU-Eunice 84-66 on Friday evening at the Lady Bear Classic in Baton Rouge, LA. The ladies struggled running their offensive sets and doing the little things defensively, and the Bengals capitalized to hand ICC the loss.
End of first quarter score: LSUE up 17-15
Keys: Despite getting down 14-5, the Cougars got on track thanks to a Maia Marshall basket (assist Josi Becker). ICC attacked the Bengals’ press & went 9-12 from the FT line to draw closer.
Halftime score: LSUE up 37-39
ICC scored the first 3 possessions on two Becker assists (Marshall 3ptr, Jordyn Hare basket, FTs by Ayanna Gibbs) to take a 22-21 lead. The teams exchanged scores thanks to two Camryn Stafford baskets and a 9-12 effort from the FT line
End of 3rd quarter score: LSUE up 55-51
LSUE capitalized on ICC turnovers to start the half on a 6-0 run. The Cougars battled back on Hare, Kamryn Cuevas, Becker, & Marshall baskets.
Turnovers again plagued the Cougars as they turned the ball over repeatedly and didn’t score until 5 minutes remained in the game. By then, the Bengals had taken a 65-53 lead. Hare, Raven Overman, & Cuevas added scores but it was too little too late.
