Bumann Wins Purdue Northwest Event; Cougars 2nd
CROWN POINT, IND – ICC’s Jack Bumann (Woodhull/Alwood HS) fired a tournament-best even-par 72 in the final round of the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite to claim a one-stroke victory in the event hosted by NCAA D2 Purdue Northwest University.
Bumann’s victory wasn’t without a touch of drama as the sophomore made a 12-foot birdie putt on his final hole at White Hawk Country Club moments after player partner Ryan Wells of PNW ran his 20-foot birdie try past the hole. Bumann had a 36-hole total of 150 (78-72) to edge Wells by a stroke. It was Bumann’s first collegiate victory.
ICC finished second in the event with rounds of 320-305. Freshman Isaac Ingold (Morton/Morton HS) tied for third (77-75) while sophomore Noah Benbow (Galesburg/Galesburg HS) tied for seventh at 81-78.
Other ICC scores included: Matthew Cox (East Peoria/East Peoria HS) 84-80 and Carter Leroy (Morton/Morton HS) 84-81.
The event concludes ICC fall season. The Cougars start the spring season at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling in Scottsboro, Ala. The March tournament honors former ICC coach Ron Marshall who founded the event in 2001 and is the largest two-year college event outside the NJCAA National Championship.
