Consistent Play Helps ICC to 3rd Place Finish at IVCC Classic
LASALLE – With all but one individual score in the 70s, the Illinois Central College men’s golf team finished third in the 16-team Illinois Valley Community College Classic. ICC put together a 305-304 – 609 aggregate in an event played Friday (9/21) at Deer Park Country Club and at Oak Ridge Golf Course on Saturday (9/22).
Freshman Isaac Ingold (Morton/Morton HS) paced the Cougars with rounds of 74-76. He finished tied for seventh in the 97-player field. Sophomore Noah Benbow (Galesburg/Galesburg HS), despite an uncharacteristic opening round 78, closed with 73. Benbow’s final round 73 was the top score of all two-year college players except for medalist Jack Vercautren’s 71.
Illinois Wesleyan University won event with a 589 score.
Other ICC scores included: Carter Leroy (Morton/Morton HS) 75-78; Matthew Cox (East Peoria/East Peoria HS) 79-77; Matt Tamar (Rockford/Galesburg HS) 78-80. Jack Bumann (Woodhull/Alwood HS) shot 75-77 playing as an individual.
“When you take into account the majority of these teams have played in four or five events this fall and this was just our second event due to rain-outs, you have to pleased with the way we competed despite the lack of tournament play,” ICC coach Bo Ryan said. “We made some good decisions on how to play certain shots and for the most part, our focus was sharp.”
ICC continues its fall season at the True North Shootout on Friday (9/28) at the Amana Colonies Golf Course.
