Cougars Trounce Vikings
The #18 ICC women’s basketball team rolled to another big win on Wednesday night in East Peoria, romping over Augustana’s JV by a score of 97-36. The Cougars scored 44 points off of Auggie turnovers, controlled the boards (54-33) and placed five players in double figures to get the lopsided win and move their record to 21-7 overall.
The Cougars raced to a 21-2 lead behind strong defense and steady offense, with all five starters contributing in some fashion. Madison Faulkner, Abby Coates, Kellyn Maynard, and Bailey Larsen all scored while Kathy Pinnock-Branford ran the controls from the point guard spot, playing feisty defense and pushing the ball in transition. The Cougar bench kept things rolling as Krystal Walker and Jasmine Levy blocked shots that led to scores to put ICC up 31-8 after the first period.
The second quarter was much of the same as the Blue & Gold continued to play unselfishly. Sia Williams found Faulkner for another score, followed by a nice pass from Pinnock-Branford to Emma Henderson for a field goal. Faulkner scored again on a Kennedy Banks feed, and Larsen found Henderson to give ICC a 44-12 advantage with 3:55 to play in the half. After an Isreal Evans rebound, an Aubrey Magro trey off a set play (assist Henderson) gave the Cougars a 53-15 lead at halftime. The second half was much the same as the Cougars subbed liberally and continued to share the ball and play solid team defense to get the win.
