Math and Reading Bridge Programs

Math Bridge

The ICC Math Bridge Program is designed to help future or current ICC students  who are close to placing into the required math course for their major and need to refresh or strengthen their mathematical skills.

Students who enroll in the Math Bridge will have an appointment with a tutor from the Academic Support Center to explain the program and set up an initial assessment with ALEKS-PPL, the online, adaptive self-paced program used for the Math Bridge. The assessment test will identify the math topics in which the student needs to improve. Following the assessment, your guide from the Academic Support Center will show you how to use the Prep and Learning Modules in ALEKS-PPL to provide needed practice.

Reading Bridge

The ICC Reading Bridge program is designed for students who believe their score on the reading placement test may not accurately reflect their ability to succeed in a composition class and for students who believe that additional practice in reading will help them improve their placement and/or become better prepared to succeed in the composition class into which they place.

Students who enroll in the Reading Bridge will be added to a Blackboard course. This course is self-paced and divided into five units, composed of multiple readings on typical college subjects. To progress through the Reading Bridge, students must complete the readings and pass quizzes associated with the readings. There are twenty five readings total; students must successfully complete a minimum of seventeen readings and quizzes. Each unit contains skill practice files to help students improve their skills in reading closely, assessing information and ideas, understanding rhetoric, synthesizing multiple texts, and building vocabulary.
