February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month at ICC. This month ICC is highlighting students from various CTE programs.
ICC Nursing student Ashley Johnson doesn’t let a busy schedule keep her from achieving her education goals. A mother of an 8 month old, Ashley takes advantage of the flexibility online learning offers.
“ICC offers a lot of the classes I need online, which is awesome for me because class time is usually at 2:00 in the morning when I finally have free time.”
Free time is understandably in short supply for Ashley. In addition to her daughter, she and her fiancé are also parents to a dog, five cats, and a wild starling that Ashley hand-raised five years ago. As you might imagine based on her large multi-species family, care-giving is something that Ashley has always enjoyed.
“I chose nursing because helping people has always been my passion…if I can make a positive difference in someone’s life, that makes me happy.”
Ashley’s dream is to be a trauma or NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nurse. She says she enjoys the “insane amount of adrenaline” that goes along with trauma care, but is also interested in being able to help babies and families in the NICU.
For now, though, she is focused on her education. After completing her RN at ICC, she plans to complete the bridge program at OSF to obtain her BSN. From there, she says she would one day like to be a Nurse Practitioner.
She already has a great start to achieving her goals. Ashley says online classes have been one of the keys to her success at ICC.
“For the past two semesters I have been able to complete multiple classes at my own pace and on my own time. If it wasn’t for online classes, I wouldn’t be able to have completed all I have done already.”
A CTE program can help you achieve your goals both online and in person. Find out more today!Congratulations to the ICC Physical Therapist Assistant Program!
