The universal challenges of relationships, the blessings of equality and the often-hilarious power of love are brought to the stage when the Illinois Central College Theatre Program presents Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays for nine performances over 10 days opening April 15 in the ICC Performing Arts Center Studio Theatre on the East Peoria Campus.
Performances begin at 7:30 pm, except on April 17 and 24, when the show starts at 2:30 pm. There is no performance on Monday, April 18.
The show is rated R for mature themes and language. Some content is not suitable for children.
The show was conceived by Brian Shnipper and written by Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Moises Kaufman, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Raul Rudnick and Doug Wright. It is a series of short plays with a common theme of same-sex marriage. Each individual vignette of the show was written by a different author, offering different perspectives and viewpoints on the general theme.
Cast members include: Nathan Apodaca of Brimfield, Cassandra Bermijo of Green Bay, Wisc., Asantâ Cunningham of Chicago, Katie Doubet of East Peoria, Frank Drew of Peoria, Nathaniel Elder of Dunlap, Marcello Galvez of Peoria, Hannah Gidcumb of Tremont, Victor Griffith of Washington, Darrian Logan of New Holland, Christopher McHenry of Washington, Alek President of Rushville, Gillian Strachan of Sycamore, Rebekah Waters of Minonk, and Jordan Zimmerman of Morton.
The ICC production is directed by Rob Fulton and Doug Rosson.
The show is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
