Fraud Warning from the IRS and Federal Student Aid

The IRS is warning students nationwide of fraudulent “Federal Student Tax” phone calls. Please be advised that this is a non-existent tax and that these calls are not from the IRS.

Scam artists posing as IRS representatives are calling students in an attempt to solicit money transfers, private W-2 information, or to “verify” tax return information over the phone. As stated in the release linked below, the IRS will never demand immediate payment over the phone, threaten arrest for non-payment, or ask for credit card numbers over the phone.

If you receive what you believe to be a fraudulent call, do not give out any information and hang up immediately. Take time to report the call to the appropriate authorities provided by the IRS at the link below.
