Public Services Programs

Criminal Justice
Students can earn an Associate in Arts and Science Degree by completing 64 semester hours in this program. Students either plan to pursue careers in institutional corrections or transfer to a four-year degree institution and pursue a career in community-based corrections as probation or parole officers. Core courses include Introduction to Corrections, Juvenile Delinquency, and Criminal Law.

Crime Scene Technology Program
The Crime Scene Technology degree program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a crime scene technician, criminalist, evidence custodian or crime scene investigator.

Fire Science
Students seeking careers in the fire service earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Fire Science Technology. This program consists of 64 semester hours and has a variety of students ranging from career firefighters to those with aspirations of involvement in today's fire service. Students who are not career firefighters have the opportunity to complete a 100 hour internship. Core courses include Introduction to Fire Science, Fire Fighting Tactics, and Fire Service Management.

Industrial & Business Security
Students seeking careers as security officers and supervisors can earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree by completing this 64 semester hour program. Industrial and Business Security positions include corporate and industrial security, loss prevention, and risk management. Students are trained in law enforcement, fire science, and first aid. Core courses include Industrial Fire Protection and Criminal Investigations.

Law Enforcement
Students who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement can earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree by completing this 64 semester hour program. Students in this program generally seek positions as law enforcement officers with local and state agencies. Students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution may do so with careful planning and course selection. A summer internship with criminal justice agencies is required. Core courses include Police Procedures, Criminal Law, and Criminal Investigations.

Paralegal
The objectives of the Paralegal Programs at Illinois Central College are to produce competent, well rounded individuals who are able to work under the supervision of an attorney in the many areas of the practice of law. We offer two American Bar Association approved programs. Students who have already earned a degree enroll in our Post Degree Certificate consisting of 36 semester hours of program and related substantive law course work. Students seeking a degree may earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree by completing the 67 semester hours required in this program.

Central Illinois Police Training Center
The Central Illinois Police Training Center is housed at Illinois Central College in the Health Careers and Public Services Department. The Central Illinois Police Training Center is a Statewide System for In-Service Training (ASSIST) for continuous in-service training for current law enforcement officers.

The Central Illinois Police Training Center is also labeled as Mobile Team, Unit #7. The Training Center is part of 17 Mobile Team Units in the State of Illinois. Mobile Team Units are established under the "Intergovernmental Law Enforcement Officers In-Service Training Act." The "Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board" has the direct responsibility and control of the Mobile Team Unit. The "Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board" along with Local Membership participation supply the funding for the Mobile Team Unit.

The Training Center delivers in-service training to law officers in Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties. The Training Center is a not-for-profit governmental entity which is directed and administered by an advisory board composed of the sheriff of each county who is a member, the chief of police of each municipality who is a member, the head of the law enforcement agency of any local government which may be a member, the county board chairman of one of the member counties, the chief executive officer of one of the member municipalities, and either the executive director or chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

The objective of Mobile Team In-Service Law Enforcement Training is to encourage local and state law enforcement officers to upgrade their knowledge and skills in techniques pertinent to the law enforcement profession; to provide law enforcement officers with training opportunities within their own locality, and on flexible schedules; and, to provide quality training on topics of instruction centered on specific local needs.
