Illinois Central College will host Arts Ambassador from Nigeria to the United Nations Ibiyinka Alao for a free presentation on “Art as Frozen Music” on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center on the East Peoria Campus.
In addition, Alao will acquaint the audience with his native country during the presentation, which is free and open to the public.
After receiving first place honors in the 2001 United Nation’s art competition, which involved 61 countries, Alao was appointed by Nigeria’s president as the country’s Arts Ambassador to the UN. The UN subsequently asked him to be an Ambassador of Peace. Since that time, Ambassador Alao has traveled extensively, promoting intercultural understanding and acceptance and illustrating his message through his artwork.
Ambassador Alao brings hope and encouragement to people of all ages, as he discusses his painting, “Visions of True Color.” Completed in 2003, the original work resides in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. The subject of the painting is timeless and represents the theme that, regardless of background, color or culture, the hearts of people are the same and equally beautiful.
The presentation at Illinois Central College is one of several presentations Alao is giving during an eight-day trip to Peoria. For a complete listing of locations, dates and times of his presentations during his stay, please visit http://www.artsaticc.com/ambassadoralao.
