A 96-year-old Peoria man who set a record on the music charts will be among those honored at the Green Shoe Studio Awards on March 15 at 7:00 pm in the ICC Performing Arts Center in East Peoria.
The event will honor selected individuals from the community who have made an impact through their involvement in the arts and whose efforts have encouraged and touched others.
While most of the names of most recipients will not be revealed until the evening of the event, the exception is 96-year-old Fred Stobaugh, whose story has garnered international media attention after the video about a love song he wrote in honor of his late wife went viral.
Stobaugh submitted a written version of his song, Oh Sweet Lorraine, as part of a Green Shoe Studio song writing contest. Green Shoe Studio CEO Jacob Colgan performed and recorded the song, which reached No. 42 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 Chart. This made Stobaugh the oldest credited artist to appaear on the Billboard chart, surpassing Tony Bennett, who made the chart as part of a duet with Amy Winehouse a couple months after he turned 85.
The event will include the public debut of Stobaugh’s latest song, Took Her Home, performed by Colgan. In addition, a question-and-answer session will be held with Stobaugh, as he takes questions from event attendees or from entries submitted online prior to the event through the Green Shoe Studio web site, www.greenshoestudio.com.
The event will feature music from several local musicians, including sisters Michy and Markie Maloof, the Larry Harms Trio, and Graham Cowger. Cowger was the winner of the singer/songwriter contest in which Stobaugh entered his song.
Veteran radio broadcaster Randy Rundle will emcee the event and facilitate the question-and-answer session with Stobaugh.
The event is free, but tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved online through the ICC Performing Arts Center website, www.ArtsAtICC.com, or by calling the box office at (309) 694-5136.Next: ICC Performing Arts Center Gallery celebrates work of Artist William Butler with closing reception March 13
