Dr. William Tammone, interim president at Illinois Central College, announced his resignation, effective December 31, 2015. Tammone is leaving the College to accept a position in higher education in Colorado. Tammone noted in his letter of resignation to the Board that the new position would afford him the opportunity to apply his knowledge in online learning, collaboration, and competency-based education across the state of Colorado. He thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve as interim president.
Tammone began his career at Illinois Central College as Vice President of Academic Affairs and was later named as Provost. During his six-year tenure, Tammone enhanced the ICC accreditation process, updated transfer degrees to be consistent with the offerings of community colleges across the state, and expanded online education classes. Most recently Tammone worked collaboratively with the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council on creating apprenticeship program partnerships in Peoria, including the first applied science degree in secure software development. Tammone also championed competency-based education, which assures that students completing college programs have the skills employers expect.
“We are grateful for Dr. Tammone’s service to Illinois Central College,” Board of Trustees Chair Sue Yoder Portscheller said. “He added rigor and energy to our academic programs, encouraged innovation in education and worked diligently to assure community college graduates had the skills to become competent and productive members of the workforce and our community. We wish him and his family all the best.”
Portscheller noted that the current presidential search was on schedule and that the selection committee would be reviewing the first round of applicants in the next few weeks. She anticipates the naming of an interim before Tammone’s last day on December 31. “We have every confidence that the senior leadership will be able to effectively manage the College until our new president is named.”Next: You’re invited!
