Illinois Central College will open its 2013-14 Guest Artists Series with Lisa Rock’s tribute to successful pop music duo of Karen and Richard Carpenter in Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters on Saturday, August 31, at 7:30 pm, in the ICC Performing Arts Center, East Peoria.
Singer Lisa Rock and her band will bring many of the Carpenters’ classics and Billboard chart’s number one hits back to the stage for this show. A singer as well as a playwright, Lisa Rock has been performing to sold-out crowds for years. She’s written more than 20 original concerts and cabarets that have been seen across the country.
In Close to You: the Music of the Carpenters, Rock has arranged a six-piece band, complete with back-up singers dedicated to creating a Carpenters experience like no other. Rock’s amazing four octave range allows her to sing the hits like We’ve Only Just Begun and Rainy Days and Mondays in their original keys, keeping the songs genuine and more recognizable for the audience.
Rock goes beyond the music in her concert as she engages crowd with anecdotes about Karen Carpenter, her life and how some of the songs originated. The result is an immersive experience for the audience as they share both the music and the memories of the Carpenters.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters is the highlighted community partner for this ICC Guest Artists Series performance. The community partner program highlights a different, local organization for each Guest Artists Series presentation.
Tickets for the performance are $25 for the general public and $15 for students.
