Featuring music, comedy and a tribute to the “greatest generation,” the 2013-2014 season of Illinois Central College’s Guest Artists Series opens on August 31 with a tribute to one of the most successful pop music duos of all time.
The first performance in the Guest Artists Series’ six-show season features Lisa Rock in Close to You: the Music of the Carpenters. This tribute to the music of Karen and Richard Carpenter showcases the classic popular music of the Carpenters performed by Lisa Rock and her six-piece band.
The second show in the series is entitled, My Favorite Things: A Broadway Revue featuring the Music of Rodgers & Hammerstein. The performance features Chicago actress and cabaret artist Tiffany Gates and others and includes music from such favorites as Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, and Carousel.
November’s featured performance is perennial favorite comedy troupe, The Second City. This original comedy revue of improvisational and sketch comedy features a seasonal blend of hilarious scenes and songs and provides the perfect alternative to the same old holiday shows. The performance is rated R for mature content.
In February, comedian Mike Toomey brings his brand of nostalgic comedy to the stage in Mike Toomey’s TV and Me. Through spot-in impersonations and a multimedia presentation, Toomey takes audiences on a comical journey through the hit television shows of the 60s and 70s which consumed his childhood and helped shape his adult life.
Classical pianist Thomas Pandolfi returns to the stage at ICC on March 21 with his show, Into the Night with Gershwin. A graduate of the Julliard School, Pandolfi is considered a leading interpreter of the works of American composer George Gershwin.
The season concludes May 23 with War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of World War II. This production is a multimedia, living-history cabaret interspersed with actual personal letters from the frontline, along with historical documents and headline news from the period.
