Illinois Central College recently seated two alumni as new board of trustee members. Gale Thetford of Peoria and Diane Lamb of Peoria County began their six-year terms within ICC District 514 at their recent board of trustees meeting.
Lamb graduated from ICC and also earned a bachelor degree in geology and a master’s degree in hydrogeology from Illinois State University. She is currently an adjunct instructor at Lincoln College and is secretary of Illinois Groundwater Associations’ Executive Committee.
Lamb has been active in the community, serving on the board of directors at the Itoo Society, Greater Peoria Chess Foundation, Peoria Notre Dame High School Parent’s Board, and as Peoria Astronomical Society member.
Lamb says she wanted to serve on the board because she is passionate about education and believes in ICC’s importance to the community. She also plans to support board actions which maintain ICC’s high level of academic standards and fiscally responsible spending.
Like Lamb, Thetford is an ICC alum. She obtained her bachelor degree in English and Secondary Education from Southern Illinois University, and taught English and French at the secondary level for seven years. Thetford returned to SIU to earn her law degree. She began her legal career as Assistant Attorney General but spent the majority of her legal career as General Counsel of the Illinois Department on Aging.
Thetford has a long history of public service, having most notably served on the Peoria City Council from 1997 to 2005 and as Peoria’s Mayor Pro Tem in 2000 and 2004. She has served on the Board of Directors for Peoria Players, the Illinois Government Bar Association, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Peoria Housing Commission, the Peoria Riverfront development Commission and ICC’s own Prime Plus Advisory Board.
Thetford says she plans to focus on increased marketing of ICC, retention and support of existing students, increased job placement for students after they leave ICC and an additional focus on graduates transferring to four-year institutions.
The next ICC Board of Trustees meeting is Wednesday, May 22, at 1 pm, at ICC’s East Peoria Campus.
