Dr. John Erwin, president of Illinois Central College, received the George E. Killian Award of Excellence from the National Junior College Athletic Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in April. The award is awarded to those dedicated to the NJCAA’s ideals of volunteerism, achievement, service, leadership, and excellence and is given annually by the NJCAA executive director and national office staff.
Erwin was cited for his pivotal role in the development of two-year collegiate athletics and education over 20 years. President of ICC since 2001, Erwin has been an active participant in the NJCAA as a presidential representative and a member of the eligibility and executive committees. Prior to joining ICC, Erwin held several academic positions at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (Ohio), the Iowa Valley Community College district, Marshalltown Community College (Iowa), Illinois Valley Community College and Olney Central College (Illinois). From 1985-87, Erwin was a men’s basketball coach at Olney Central.
In addition to Erwin’s leadership as an NJCAA presidential representative, ICC has hosted the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Division II National Championship for the past six years.Next: Illinois Central College’s Board of Trustees seats two new members
