ICC joined community colleges from across the state for ICCTA Legislative Lobby Day in Springfield on Wednesday, April 29. Legislative Lobby Day is an annual opportunity for community colleges to meet with local legislators in Springfield.
Dr. Erwin was joined by Chief Public Relations Officer Valerie Welsh and ICC Board of Trustees members Mike Everett and Diane Unes Lamb.
The team met face-to-face with local legislators, including Rep. David Leitch, Sen. David Koehler, Rep. Mike Unes, and Rep. Keith Sommer and had email contact with Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth. Topics included: rallying their support for MAP Grant changes, maintaining local community college control, creating legislation to support Veterans Grant funding at the state level, and discussing the challenges of the trend of declining state funding. The team also provided the legislators with information on the future ICC Sustainability Center and North Campus Student Resource Center.
