ICC will host area high school students for its first STEM Symposium on Friday, October 31, from 8:30 am to 2 pm, at the Performing Arts Center on the East Peoria Campus. The event is geared toward informing students of career opportunities and technological achievements in the areas of engineering, computer programming and networking, science, health careers and energy.
Students will learn about the latest developments in STEM-related fields and participate with ICC faculty and local industry leaders in collaborative activities in presentations such as The Internet of Everything, Murder Mystery Using Programing Language, Building a Mobile First Website, Engineering at ICC: Go-Carts to Robots, Caterpillar Immersion Technology System and much more. Students will also learn about ICC’s future Sustainability Center, a sustainability and green engineering educational facility and community resource center, which is slated for completion in the fall of 2015.
Area high schools must register their school for participation by Monday, October 20, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Illinois Central College is one of seven Illinois community colleges which have partnered with area high schools to participate in the Illinois Community College Board’s STEM College and Career Readiness project. The multi-year project is funded by the Illinois Community College Board and seeks to align high school and post-secondary education curricula to reduce the need for remediation at the post-secondary level, particularly in mathematics.
For more information or to participate in the Symposium, please contact Julie Howar, Dean of ICC’s Business, Hospitality and Information Systems, at Julie.Howar@icc.edu.
